Biography:
Hellen Ascoli is an artist, weaver, and educator born in Guatemala City, Guatemala in 1984. She received her BFA in sculpture from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX in 2006 and her MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL in 2012. Ascoli has taught at several universities, including the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. She has exhibited her multidisciplinary works in various institutions, such as the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York and the Montalvo Arts Center in California. Ascoli's art practice explores memory and sensation, often incorporating weaving techniques and movement in her creations. In 2024, she was selected as a finalist for the Sondheim Art Prize.
