Helmut Lang is an Austrian artist and former fashion designer who lives and works in New York. He was born on March 10, 1956, in Vienna, Austria. Helmut Lang started his career as a banker before becoming an autodidact fashion designer at the age of 23. In 1986, he opened his first boutique selling his own creations and presented his first collection. He gained international recognition for his minimalist style in both men's and women's clothing lines. Helmut Lang moved to New York in 1997 where he achieved great commercial success. Throughout his career, he collaborated with renowned artists such as Jenny Holzer and Louise Bourgeois. In addition to fashion design, Helmut Lang is also known for his work in new media art, drawing, and other artistic disciplines.
