Biography:
Hemali Bhuta is an Indian contemporary artist born in 1978 in Mumbai, India. She creates site-responsive sculptural interventions that embrace entropy, using materials and processes susceptible to decay and disintegration to challenge the conventional material and temporal conditions of a work of art. Her work deals with the effect of time on spaces and attempts to transform impressions of a space into tangible experiences. Bhuta received her MVA Part II (Painting) at the MS University, Baroda, in 2009 and completed her diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) at the LS Raheja School of Art in Mumbai. She is the co-founder of CONA, a collaborative artist-run space. Bhuta's work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the Singapore Biennale 2022, Jameel Arts Centre, Ceysson & Bénétière, and the Centre international d'art et du paysage de Vassivière. In 2012, The New York Times named her a 'New Indian Art Star'.
