Biography:
Hendrik de Fromantiou was a Dutch still life painter born in Maastricht in 1633. He produced works for the art dealer Gerrit van Uylenburgh in Amsterdam during his youth and was active in The Hague from 1658. In 1670, he became the conservator of the royal collection in Potsdam. He is known for his advice to Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg, to send back 12 paintings sold by Van Uylenburgh as forgeries. He married the daughter of the rich and successful fellow Dutch painter Philip Wouwerman in 1672 and died in Potsdam after 1693.
