Death: 1730

Biography:

Henry Ferguson or ‘Vergazon’ was probably the son of William Gouw Ferguson who spent most of his career in the Netherlands after being admitted to the Guild of St Luke in 1646. He was born in The Hague and worked for a short time in England. He travelled with Adriaen van der Kabel via Lyon to Toulouse, where he later died. He was a Dutch painter of ruins and landscapes, with which he sometimes was called to adorn the backgrounds of Kneller's pictures, though his colouring was reckoned too dark. He painted a few small portraits.
