Biography:
Herbert Kisza is a Czech painter and sculptor, born on June 16, 1943, in Podobora, now part of Chotěbuz. He studied at the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Brno from 1957 to 1961 and later at the College of Applied Arts (UMPRUM) in Prague, where he specialized in monumental painting and graduated in 1967. In 1972, Kisza moved to Kadaň, where he opened the U Netopýra Gallery in 1991, which is now one of the largest private galleries in Central Europe. He has organized several sculpting workshops in Franciscan Monastery in Kadaň and has taken part in many others elsewhere. Kisza's work often uses objective reality as a medium to turn the painting into a dream or a poem full of metaphors and symbols, often drawing on ancient myths to depict modern society. He has also turned to graphic art and sculpture and has published a book of photographs about Kadaň.
