Biography:

Hester Bateman, born Hester Needham in London in 1709, was a renowned English silversmith. She took over the family business after her husband's death in 1760 and registered her mark at Goldsmith's Hall in London in 1761. Bateman was known for her high quality flatware and ornamental silverware, and her company lasted until the middle of the nineteenth century, passed down through generations of the Bateman family. She died in London in 1794.
