Biography:
Hiba Al Ansari is a Syrian artist who was born in Libya in 1983. She currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Al Ansari studied at the Adham Ismail and Walid Ezzat Institute for Fine Arts in Damascus from 2005 to 2008 and received a degree in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Damascus in 2012. In 2014, she continued her studies at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under Prof. Gregor Schneider's class and received her diploma in sculpture in 2017. Al Ansari has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Europe and the Middle East, including the Venice Biennale in 2015. Her solo exhibitions include 'The Math Book' at Ashkal Alwan in Beirut, Lebanon (2017) and Shedhalle, Rote Fabrik in Zurich, Switzerland (2019). She was awarded scholarships from Ettijahat - Independent Culture, the Goethe Institute, the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), and the Schafhof artist-in-residence program. Al Ansari's work often explores themes of destruction, construction, and resistance against political violence.
