Biography:
Ike Kulowiyi is an enrolled member of the Native Village of Savoonga and a Yupik artist from St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. He began carving at the age of 12, learning the art from his family members. Ike's work primarily features marine animals such as walruses and whales carved out of ivory or fossilized walrus tusks. His pieces often incorporate traditional Yupik motifs and designs. Kulowiyi has exhibited his artwork in various galleries and museums across the United States, including the Alaska Native Arts Foundation.
