Biography:

Teisai Ikeda (池田 貞哉, Ikeda Teisai, 1799 – 1859) was a Japanese painter and ukiyo-e artist. He was born in Tokyo and died in the same city in 1859. Ikeda was a student of the famous ukiyo-e artist Toyokuni III and became a prominent artist in his own right. He was known for his portraits of famous actors and his illustrations for kabuki theater. Ikeda also painted landscapes and other subjects, and his work is highly regarded for its technical skill and artistic sensitivity.
