Biography:
Irineo L. Miranda, known as the 'Dean of Philippine Cartoonists', was a watercolorist, illustrator, and cartoonist born in San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines on December 15, 1896. He was a classical realist artist who promoted classical canons of beauty, harmony, and proportion from the 1920s to the 1940s. Miranda was also an early graduate of the University of the Philippines’ College of Fine Arts and was known for his theatrical approach to painting. He passed away in 1964.
