Biography:

Ivan Ivanovich Trush was a Ukrainian impressionist painter, portraitist, landscape painter, critic, and publisher. He was born on January 18, 1869, in Vysotsko, Lviv region, Ukraine. Trush received a magnificent academic education in Europe and became a representative of the new Ukrainian artistic ideology at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. He was not only a painter but also an active participant in the cultural and social life of Lviv. Trush was a lyricist and a subtle colorist who worked in an impressionistic style, creating more than six thousand paintings. Among them is a gallery of portraits of famous Ukrainian figures, from Lesia Ukrainka to Ivan Franko. His famous paintings include 'Sunset in the forest', 'Lonely Pine', 'In the arms of the snow', 'Haystacks', 'Moonlight night above the sea', and portraits of Ivan Franko and Lesia Ukrainka. Trush's family was poor, and his father, who was engaged in tailoring, had a great influence on the development of his creative abilities. Trush died on March 21, 1941, in Lviv, Ukraine.
