Biography:

Iver Winfeldt Buch was a Norwegian goldsmith who was active in Russia. He was born in Drammen, Norway in 1749 and died in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1811. Buch is best known for his gold chalice of 1791, which was part of a liturgical set commissioned by Catherine the Great. He also produced two liturgical sets for the Divine Liturgy in 1790. Buch's work is included in the exhibition at the National Museum of Art. He is also mentioned in the book 'Passion of the Empress: Catherine the Great’s Art Patronage' and in the Oxford Reference.
