Biography:
Jacques de Claeuw, also known as Jacques Grief, was a Dutch Golden Age painter born in Dordrecht, Netherlands in 1623. He died in Leiden in 1694. According to Houbraken, he helped separate the Dordrecht Guild of Saint Luke from the old Gild van de vyf Neringen in 1642. He was a member of the Dordrecht guild in 1642-46, and later became a member of the guild in The Hague in 1646. In 1651, he married and moved to Leiden where he became the father of Adriaen de Grijef. He is also registered in Haarlem in 1687. He is known for his still-life paintings.
