Biography:
Asaf Jafarov was a Soviet Azerbaijani painter who was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR. He was born on July 28, 1927, in Baku and died on April 3, 2000, also in Baku. Asaf Jafarov received his first training in painting at the A. Azimzade art school from 1945 to 1950. He then pursued higher studies at the Surikov Art Institute from 1951 to 1957. In 1957, he was sent on a creative mission to India and Pakistan. One of his notable works from this period is 'Choice of a bracelet' (1957). Asaf Jafarov created a gallery of works in thematic painting, portraiture, landscape, and still life, which are distinguished by their unique composition, color, and style of treatment. His work was dominated by national tones and he often drew inspiration from folklore and traditional subjects. He is also the author of numerous portraits.
