Biography:

James Arthur Gosling, also known as J. Woodley Gosling, is a Canadian computer scientist born on May 19, 1955, in Calgary, Canada. He is best known for being the founder and lead designer of the Java programming language. Gosling earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Calgary in 1977 and his MA and Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1983. His doctoral thesis was titled 'Algebraic Constraints'. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to computer science, including being named an Officer of the Order of Canada and receiving the IEEE John von Neumann Medal. Gosling has also worked for companies such as Sun Microsystems, Oracle Corporation, Google, Liquid Robotics, and Amazon Web Services.
