Biography:

James Gandy nació en Exeter, Inglaterra en 1619. He is said to have been a pupil of Anthony van Dyck and to have acquired some of his style, possibly paint the drapery in Van Dyck's pictures. En 1661 fue llevado a Irlanda por su patrono, el duque de Ormonde, y permaneció allí hasta su muerte en 1689. Fue pintor de retratos y es conocido por su obra "Deborah Hopton y su Hijo" (1694).
