Biography:
Jean Albert McEwen was a Canadian painter known for his lyrical abstraction. He was born on December 14, 1923, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and died on January 9, 1999. McEwen began his working life as a pharmacist but soon became passionate about art and literature. Influenced by French impressionism and American abstract expressionism, he committed to non-figurative art after returning from Paris in 1953. He was a member of the Non-Figurative Artists' Association of Montreal and received several awards for his work.
