Jean Baptiste Louis Maes Canini, also known as Jan Baptist Lodewijck Maes, was a Belgian painter born in Gent, Belgium in 1794. He studied at the art academy in Gent and later in Antwerpen. Maes was active in Parijs in 1821 and 1822, where he won the Prix de Rome for painting in 1821. He then moved to Firenze and later settled in Rome in 1827, where he spent the rest of his life. Maes's works can be found in various museums and collections. He is known for his talent and skill as a painter.
