Biography:
Jean Baptiste van Eycken was a Belgian historical and religious painter. He was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1809 and died in 1853. He was the son of Corneille van Eycken and Elise Cordemans, and as a boy was employed in commercial pursuits. From 1829, he began his artistic training. Two of his most important pictures were those representing Captive Christians and St. Boniface, for the Église de la Chapelle. He is known for his paintings in oil on panel.
