Biography:
Mathieu Deroche, also known as Jean Louis Albert Mathieu, was a French miniaturist and photographer born in Dijon in 1837. He was active in Paris and Milan between 1866 and 1904, and is best known for his portraits, some of which were colorized and transferred onto ceramic and vitrified using a process that bears his name: the Procédé Deroche or Procédé Mathieu-Deroche. He was a member of the Société française de photographie and received several distinctions, including a silver medal in 1867, the title of Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur in 1900, and a grand prize in 1904.
