Biography:
Jill Bedgood is an American sculptor, painter, installation, and multimedia artist. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1960. Bedgood received degrees in painting, mixed media sculpture, and art history from Louisiana State University, and the University of Texas at Austin. After completing her study, Bedgood taught at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Trinity University, Texas State University in San Marcos, Southwestern University, and Austin Community College. Bedgood is known for her meticulous attention to detail and slow-burn subtlety. She has earned a reputation for understated interventions that honor a historical era, space, or place. She matches her impressive skills of making—through drawing, sculpting or installing—with keen, multilayered observations. Bedgood has received numerous grants and awards, including Visiting Artist Residencies at the American Academy in Rome and a Residency at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy. She was a fellow at the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Bedgood has exhibited work at the Holocaust Museum Houston, Houston Center for Contemporary Crafts, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Painting School in Athens, Greece, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Turkey, Austin Museum of Art, San Antonio Museum of Art, Women & Their Work Gallery, Lawndale Art Center, and many other galleries and museums.
