Biography:
John Goba is a Sierra Leonean Postwar & Contemporary sculptor, born in 1944 in Mattru Jong, Sierra Leone. He is known for his sculptures using epines de porc-épic (porcupine quills) planted on small colorful figures with industrial paint and his masks intended for the Mende secret societies. He has participated in numerous international art events and exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, the 5th Biennale of Havana, and the 5th Biennale of Lyon. He died in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in 2019.
