Jozef Hanula

Biography:

Jozef Hanula was a Slovak artist known for his genre paintings. He is best recognized and remains known for his works from the period 1900–18, which he created following his return to the homeland after studying abroad. His paintings often depicted folk costumes and details in subjects' hands and faces, bringing nostalgic feelings but also constituting an allegory of the Slovak nation suffering under foreign rule.
