Biography:

Judith Ann Darragh is a New Zealand artist known for her sculptural assemblages created from found objects. Born in 1957, Darragh has also worked with paint and film, and her work is represented in several public collections in New Zealand.

Early Life and Education

Darragh was born and raised in Christchurch, where she was surrounded by a family that valued making things. Her mother worked in a clothing factory, and her father was a freezing worker. Darragh's early interest in art led her to study graphic design at Wellington Polytechnic, graduating with a Diploma in Visual Communication and Design in 1978. She later gained a Diploma in Teaching from Auckland Secondary School Teachers College in 1980.

Artist-run Initiatives

In 1992, Darragh co-founded the artist-run space Teststrip in Auckland, which ran until 1997. She then started Cuckoo, an artist-run project based in Auckland, with four other artists in 2000. These initiatives have been instrumental in showcasing her work and providing a platform for other artists to exhibit their creations.

Some of Darragh's notable works include Doctor, 2013, which was exhibited at Gus Fisher Gallery in 2013. This artwork is a testament to her ability to create thought-provoking pieces that challenge societal norms.
