Junya Watanabe is a Japanese fashion designer, a protégé of Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo. He continues to work for Comme des Garçons: His atelier is located on the second floor of its Tokyo headquarters, and he produces four shows a year in Paris. Watanabe was born in Fukushima, Japan in 1961. He is known for his advanced approach to design and avant-garde aesthetic. He is also known for being the protegé of Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo. He is the head designer of his own line, Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons, which is a sub-label of Comme des Garçons. He has been showing his collections in Paris since 1993. He is considered one of the most important and influential designers in the fashion industry.
