Biography:

Chick Wooten was a self-taught American artist from eastern North Carolina. He was born in La Grange and grew up in Lenoir County, where he drew inspiration for his rural scenes. Wooten started painting in grade school and developed a gift for it by his late 20s. Over a 60-year career, he created countless paintings and murals depicting his life growing up in the 1930s and 1940s. His work focused on regionalist scene painting and was featured in public exhibitions throughout the region.
