Biography:

Jurgan Frederick Huge was born in Hamburg in 1809. Of the approximately fifty known examples of his work, most are renderings of sailing and steam vessels, which recall the maritime scenes of the Hudson River School. Huge immigrated to the United States as a young man and settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He is best known for his accurate and detailed ship, landscape, and architectural oils and watercolors. Huge's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with one of his paintings, 'Composite Harbor Scene with Volcano', being sold at Sotheby's in 2014.
