Biography:

Kano Tanbi was born in Kyoto, where he became one of the most versatile and prolific artists of the family of Japanese painters known as the Kano school. He was a pupil of Kano Tanshin, and was active in Kyoto and Osaka. He was a master of the Kano style, and his works are characterized by their bold brushwork and rich colors. He was particularly known for his portraits and landscapes, and his works are highly regarded for their beauty and elegance. He died in Kyoto in 1893.
