Biography:

Karen Viola is a Canadian artist born in 1965 in White Plains, United States. She works and resides in her birth city. Viola is known for her unconventional mixed media book forms inspired by her love of nature. She has a wide range of professional experience in the children's book publishing industry and has earned a BFA at Parsons School of Design. Viola's art practice finds inspiration in the panoply of patterns and narratives of nature, including humans. She is currently experimenting with unconventional book and kinetic forms. Viola's work has been featured in the Center for Book Arts and she runs her own business and micro publishing imprint, Climbing Tree Press, offering book art editions, prints, and hand-dyed textiles. In addition to her visual art, Viola is also an author and has written children's books such as 'Goodnight Sun, Hello Moon'.
