Biography:

Karla Woisnitza is a German artist born in 1952 in Rüdersdorf, Germany. She studied set design from 1973 to 1979 at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, where she was inspired by her teacher Günter Hornig. Woisnitza is known for her artistic activation of the body in the interest of female self-assurance and empowerment, and for challenging traditional representations of femininity. She has received several awards, including the Marianne Werefkin Prize in 1992 and the Käthe Kollwitz Prize in 1994. Woisnitza's work is in the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
