YOKOYAMA Kazan, also known as Kazan Yokoyama, was born on September 7, 1909, in Constantinople, Turkey. He was a renowned American film and theatre director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Kazan was known for his work in Broadway and Hollywood, and was described by The New York Times as 'one of the most honored and influential directors in Broadway and Hollywood history'. He was educated at Williams College and Yale University, and began his career as an actor before joining the Group Theatre in 1932. In 1947, Kazan co-founded the Actors Studio, where he introduced 'Method Acting' under the direction of Lee Strasberg. Kazan's films were concerned with personal or social issues of special concern to him. He was married three times and had five children, including Nicholas Kazan and Zoe Kazan. Kazan died on September 28, 2003, in New York City, USA.
