Biography:
Kolman Helmschmid was a German armourer and member of the prominent Helmschmied family of Augsburg. He worked alongside his father Lorenz Helmschmied from 1492 and took control of the workshop after his father's death in 1515. Kolman created some of the most technically innovative and artistically complex armours for high nobility, including multiple emperors, rulers of the Spanish Empire, archdukes of Austria and Tyrol, as well as other wealthy clients.
