Biography:

Konstanty Słotwiński was a Polish lawyer, commissioner of the district, director of the Ossolineum Institute in Lviv, and member of the Krakow Scientific Society. He was also a nobleman and a descendant of the Leliwa coat of arms family. In his youth, he served as an artillery officer in the Warsaw Duchy and fought in Napoleon's army. Słotwiński was known for his patriotic activities and was involved in the publication of secret patriotic periodicals, including 'Konfederatka', which was issued after the November Uprising. He was arrested and imprisoned for 6 years for his involvement in these activities. During his time as director of the Ossolineum Institute, Słotwiński oversaw the publication of numerous books and journals, including works on law, history, and literature. He also initiated the printing of secret patriotic materials, which was discovered by the authorities in 1834 and led to the closure of the institute's library and press. Słotwiński wrote several works, including 'Katechizmu poddanych galicyjskich' (Catechism of Galician Subjects), which presented a critical view of serfdom and advocated for peasants' rights.
