Biography:

Laura Theresa Alma-Tadema (née Epps; 16 April 1852 – 15 August 1909) was a British painter specialising in domestic and genre scenes of women and children. She was the youngest daughter of Dr. George Napoleon Epps, who was a homeopathic physician and friend of Charles Dickens. She had two sisters who were also painters, Emily studied under Ford Madox Brown and Ellen studied under John Brett. She married the artist Lawrence Alma-Tadema in 1871. She exhibited 18 works at the Royal Academy between 1873 and 1909. She specialized in highly sentimental domestic and genre scenes of women and children, often in Dutch 17th-century settings and costumes. She was also frequently painted by her husband after their marriage. She died in London in 1909.
