Lhola Amira is an interdisciplinary artist born in Gugulethu, South Africa in 1984. Amira's practice includes 'Appearance', photography, video, and installation. Amira defines their practice as 'appearance', a term that draws from the Xhosa concept of 'Ubuciko', which refers to the act of arriving or appearing. Amira's work often explores themes of identity, spirituality, and the politics of representation. Amira has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at the Biennale of Sydney, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and the Google Arts & Culture platform. Amira currently lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.
