Loy Chye Chuan was a Singaporean artist born in 1936 and died in 1999. He was a member of the Singapore Watercolour Society, which he co-founded in 1969 with artists like Lim Cheng Hoe and Chen Chong Swee. He was also a lecturer at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, where he taught Chinese ink painting techniques.
Loy Chye Chuan was known for his watercolor paintings of local and Southeast Asian themes, and was part of the Nanyang-styled painting movement unique to Singapore. He was also one of the first artists in Singapore to use Chinese ink painting techniques to render scenery and figurative paintings of local and Southeast Asian themes.
