Biography:
Luca Bartolomeo della Robbia, known as Luca della Robbia il Giovane, was an Italian sculptor and ceramist. He was born in Florence in 1475 and died in Paris in 1548. He was the sixth son of Andrea della Robbia and was baptized under the name of Luca, like his uncle paternal. He was one of the five sons of Andrea Della Robbia with Giovanni, Fra' Mattia, Girolamo, Fra' Ambrogio, all active in the same artistic productions in the family workshop. Luca il Giovane joined his brother Giovanni in 1529 in France, fleeing the plague, and the workshop ceased production following a dispute with Santi Buglioni. Italian Renaissance sculpture was dominated by the north, above all by Florence, and Luca della Robbia il Giovane was one of the major Florentine sculptors in stone of the time.
