Biography:
Lucien Lelong was a French couturier who was prominent from the 1920s to the 1940s. Born as the son of Arthur Lelong, the owner of a fashion store in Paris, he trained at the Hautes Etudes de Commerciales and opened his own fashion house in the early 1910s. His designs were featured in Vogue magazine in 1913. Lucien Lelong did not actually create the garments that bore his label; instead, he worked through his designers. Some notable designers who worked for him include Christian Dior, Nadine Robinson, and Hubert de Givenchy. He remarried for the third time in 1954 with Sanda Dancovici and had a daughter named Christine. Lucien Lelong retired from couture in August 1948 and continued his perfume business until his death on May 11, 1958.
