Biography:

Lucretia Carew, also known as Lucretia Greene, was born in Waterford, Ireland in about 1803. She was the daughter of William Greene and Margaret Carew. Lucretia married Edward Elsted in 1822 in County Wexford, Ireland. She was a member of Mr. Kinne's School and was known for her elaborate 'dressed' silk embroidered memorials. One of her most famous works is the 'Mourning Sampler' dedicated to her sister Lucy Carew Tillinghast and her nephew Joseph, made in 1800. Lucretia Carew died in 1893.
