Biography:

The Master of Eggenburg was an Austrian painter who was active in the late 15th century. He is known for his small painted oeuvre, which includes the Death of the Virgin that was commissioned for the Lower Austrian Redemptoristenkloster in Eggenburg. His other extant paintings are from the same period and are characterized by their use of oil on spruce and gold ground. The Master of Eggenburg is also known for his work on the exterior of the panel with St Adalbert and St Procopius, which is dated to around 1490-1500. He is considered to be a significant figure in the development of Austrian painting in the late Middle Ages.
