Biography:

Martin J. Cervantez, also known as M. Sgt. Martin Cervantez, is a Master Sergeant in the United States Army and an artist. He enlisted in the Army Signal Corps in July 1986 as an 81E, Illustrator, without any formal artistic training. He has been serving in the Army for over 25 years and has been the Army's only official artist since 2006. He has been responsible for capturing the Army's history and experiences from the front lines through his artwork. He has been deployed to various conflict zones, including Iraq and Afghanistan, to document the Army's activities. He has been awarded several medals and recognitions for his service and his artwork. He is also a member of the Warrior Writers, a group of military veterans who use writing and art as a form of therapy and self-expression. He is also a member of the United States Army Art Program or U.S. Army Combat Art Program, which is a program to create artwork documenting the Army's involvements in war and peacetime engagements. The art collection associated with the program is held by the U.S. Army Center of Military History. The United States Army Centre of Military History built the National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir that is now completed and will open when conditions allow.
