Biography:

Mahmoud Mokhtar, also known as Mahmoud Mukhtar, was an Egyptian sculptor born in Douar skouila, Egypt in 1891. He passed away in 1934. Mokhtar is considered the father of modern Egyptian sculpture and is known for his significant impact on the realization and formation of contemporary Egyptian art. His work is credited with signaling the beginning of the Egyptian modernist movement. Mokhtar studied at the College of Fine Arts in Cairo and later at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is best known for his sculpture 'Au Bord du Nil' or 'On the Banks of the Nile'. Mokhtar's legacy includes the Mahmoud Mokhtar Museum in Cairo, which houses his works in various media, and a Google Doodle commemorating his 121st birth anniversary.
