Biography:
Manuel Filipe Nascimento (Condeixa-a-Nova, 1908 – Lisboa, 2002) was a Portuguese painter and professor. He is known for his work in the Neo-Realist movement during the 1940s, particularly his 'Black Phase' which featured expressionistic themes of social struggle and resistance against oppression. Filipe studied at various institutions including Coimbra University and worked as an art teacher before becoming a full-time artist. His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums throughout Portugal.
