Biography:
Marco Gastini was born in Turin, Italy in 1938. He began his artistic training at his father's laboratory, where he acquired familiarity with techniques and processing materials. Gastini's exhibition path began in Turin, where he sought to overcome the late-informal stagnation of the time. His early works were characterized by minimal traces and gestures, close to the territories practiced by contemporary minimal art and analytical painting. In the mid-1970s, Gastini's vision became more radical, leading him to use materials that seemed to distance him from painting. However, these materials were used to create a new way of meaning painting, with a close relationship to space, both mental and physical. Gastini's work has been exhibited in numerous national and foreign museums, including the Venice Biennale, the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich, the Galleria Civica di Modena, the PAC in Milan, the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna of Bologna, the Galleria Civica d’Arte Contemporanea of Trento, the Kunstverein of Frankfurt and of St. Gallen, the Orangerie im Schlosspark Belvedere of Weimar, the GAM of Turin, CAMeC of La Spezia, the Kunsthalle of Göppingen, the MAMbo of Bologna and Ca’ Pesaro in Venice. His works are preserved in private collections, foundations and public institutions, including the GAM of Turin, the Museo del Novecento in Milan, the MAMbo of Bologna, Mart in Rovereto (VAF-Stiftung), the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich.
