Biography:

Maria Dumitru Ruiz is a young Roma academic and feminist from Romania. She is currently a PhD candidate at MF Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society in Oslo, Norway, researching the experiences of Romani women who live in a country other than their country of origin. Her thesis aims to challenge the stereotypical collective image toward Romanian Roma women. Maria is also a member of the Feminist Collective of Romani Gender Experts. She has a Facebook page with over 88,000 likes, where she performs traditional Romanian music. Maria has also published research on the Romanian Roma community and has a profile on ResearchGate. She is not to be confused with Maria Dumitru Toma or Maria Dumitru, a gastro-enterologist in France.
