Biography:
Maria Semenova, also known as Maria Wasiliewna Semenova, was a Russian silversmith and enameller who worked in Moscow from about 1890. She inherited her father's workshop after his death in 1896 and became one of the few women in Russia to own a silversmithing and enamelling workshop. Her pieces are of outstanding quality, especially in the painting of the cloisons, and tend more towards the traditional style rather than Art Nouveau. She is known for her magnificent cloisons of flowers and her work is highly regarded in the field of Russian silver and enamel.
