Biography:
Mario Zhekov, also known as Mario Jekov, was a Bulgarian painter born in Stara Zagora in 1898 and died in 1955. He is considered one of the greatest Bulgarian mariners and spent most of his life traveling on the seashore to paint on a plain. His works are predominantly with a marine theme, and he is known for his landscape paintings, mainly seascapes. He studied painting in Paris and Sofia and has traveled and lived in France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Macedonia.
