Mary Buford Hitz is an American journalist, educator, and author. She was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, United States in 1950. She has published several books, including 'Never Ask Permission: Elisabeth Scott Bocok of Richmond, a Memoir' in 2000. She is also known for her work as a free-lance journalist, writing for the Washington Post, the Richmond Times Dispatch, and regional magazines. Hitz is also the author of 'Riding To Camille: A novel of love and perseverance through one of Virginia’s worst natural disasters' in 2013. She is currently living and working in Afton, Virginia.
