Biography:
Masato Kobayashi is a Japanese artist born in Tokyo in 1957. He is known for his messy and rugged hand-painted canvases, which defy the conventions of painting. Masato Kobayashi has represented Japan at the Sao Paulo Biennale in 1996 and has been based in Ghent, Belgium, since 1997. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in key galleries and museums, including The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
